Sandlot

"We all lived in the neighborhood for a couple of more years-mostly through junior high school-and every summer was great. But none of them ever came close to that first one. When one guy would move away, we never replaced him on the team with anyone else. We just kept the game going like he was still there." -smalls

our hearts are wicked jacked

So instead of blaming the loss of my blogging momentum to the *sigh* death of my camera, I want to post a few pictures of these indelibe summer moments that signify both a closing and a opening of old and new eras, chapters, all of it. It took about 2 months to close, but in those two months we kept our eye on the prize: celebration.

The original idea of this blog was to personalize and immortalize each of these nights that keep blowing my mind and making my heart explode. So much music, dancing, wonder, stories, unique and oh-so-special characters that make up our little crew.

Here is Matt Ferris-Smith featured on our long walks to and from the Gorge Ampitheatre during Sasquatch. In my high-spirited bloody mary manor, I took roughly 7 shots of his t-shirt. I just love it. Never was a drink not in our hands, and the fact I've waited so long to write the stories means they might never be told. The jist: we filled the music gaps making rules of sasquatch. Here's what I remember:

1. Sasquatch or no-quatch
2. When it doubt, try it out
3. No sodas in the bathroom
4. Always dance in the champagne line
5. Anyone remember # 5?

This picture, featuring Alex Berke, Clare, and the infamous french visitor, Thibaut, was taken during our first venture away from my 24th front yard birthday picnic. We talked the whole day about things we could do, if we left the front yard. Instead, the champagne kept flowing and we could only decide on a walk to the store for popsicles and other less innocent things. Everyone was in pure celebratory and sun dress mode. Roses abundant.

I wish we had captured more of this on camera. I feel like this picture of Wade, Thibaut, and I, taken on the way back from the Metolius River, is indicative of the very little sleep that we actually got this summer. Whenever it happened, it was friend-heaped, snuggle-laden, hot, more snuggly, and brief. With a total of over 20 visitors within a 2 month span, you can imagine the creative arrangements and sparsity. Sleep? That's what winter is for.

In love.

summertime meltdown

Midst birthday celebrations, visitors galore, and a mostly unemployed (and too much fun) social circle, Portland is experiencing a *record breaking * heatwave these past few days. You can hear the chatter in the stores and feel the sweat radiating from bikers and children in the streets. it's hot.

Here are a few of my favorite summer images that just scream heat and the perpetual search to be close to water

mmm the freshest of fresh berries from the Wednesday morning farmers markets in the SW Park Blocks. Mom and I picked up a few for our ride to Hood River later that afternoon.

Crew celebrating Eleanor's 24th birthday at Ecola State Park. Check out Mayme lookin' fine in white, Elea perched on her soccer ball, and of course the snack crew around the cooler.
